As many of you are aware we have been using digital imaging (the “camera”) for screening and monitoring eye health in our practice for over 8 years. With technology advancing and improvements continuing to be
and improvements continuing
to bemade we have now introduced the next generation of imaging equipment to our practice – Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) .
The OCT will produce digital photographs, like our current camera, but it will also provide an advanced 3D cross sectional scan of the back of the eye. This will allow us to see 3D images of the structures inside the eye and beneath the retina in far more detail than previously possible. Its analysis software will detect subtle changes in your eyes from one visit to the next.
The OCT will be particularly useful in the early detection of glaucoma, age-related macular degeneration, vitreous detachments and diabetic retinopathy.
